Campfire Cones

Campfire dessert campfire cones with waffle ice cream cones layered with melted marshmallows, chocolate chips, and fruit for a warm s’mores alternative. You’ll melt the fillings on a campfire grate until glossy, then cool briefly so the cone stays intact while the center stays melty.

Ingredients

Waffle cone base
  • 6 waffle ice cream cones
Melted filling
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
Fruit and crunch
  • 1 cup banana slices
  • 0.5 cup strawberries, diced
  • 0.5 cup graham cracker pieces
Campfire wrap
  • 1 aluminum foil

Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Method

Layer the cones
  1. Fill each waffle cone with layers of mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, banana slices, strawberries, and graham cracker pieces.
Wrap for even melting
  1. Wrap each filled cone completely in aluminum foil so the filling stays contained while heating.
Melt on the campfire grate
  1. Place the wrapped cones on a campfire grate over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, rotating occasionally until the chocolate looks glossy and the marshmallows have melted.
Cool and serve
  1. Remove the cones from the fire and let them cool for 2 minutes so the foil-handling is easier and the filling thickens slightly.
  2. Carefully unwrap the foil and enjoy immediately with a spoon.

Notes

Tip: Press the first layer of marshmallows in firmly so nothing falls out when you rotate the cones over heat. Store leftover cones covered in the fridge for up to 1 day; for best texture, rewarm gently for 30-45 seconds at low heat before serving. Freezing is not recommended because the cone can soften. Dietary swap: use dairy-free chocolate chips and dairy-free marshmallows for a dairy-free version.
