Ingredients

American flag fruit platter
  • 2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 2 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and halved lengthwise
  • 3 medium bananas, sliced into rounds
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to brush on bananas to prevent browning)

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Build the flag platter
  1. Choose a large rectangular serving tray or cutting board as your base and keep it clean and dry for tight fruit rows.
  2. In the upper left corner, arrange a dense rectangle of blueberries to form the canton (star field) with no gaps.
  3. Starting from the top right of the tray and working left from the blueberry section, lay rows of halved strawberries cut-side down to form the red stripes.
  4. Brush banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange them in rows between the strawberry stripes to create the white stripes.
  5. Continue alternating strawberry and banana rows across the full length of the tray, pressing lightly so rows stay straight and snug.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately for the freshest look, or refrigerate uncovered for up to 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Pro tip: aim for uniform row thickness by placing fruit cut-sides facing the same direction and gently pressing each row into the previous one. Store covered in the refrigerator up to 1 day, but expect bananas to soften slightly; freezing is not recommended. Dietary swap: use gluten-free options as needed is unnecessary here, but for a vegan-friendly crowd this platter is already plant-based.
