Ingredients

Apple rings
  • 3 apples Use Honeycrisp or Fuji; core and slice into 1/2-inch rings.
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Melted.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 vanilla ice cream For serving.
  • 1 caramel sauce For serving.

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Make the cinnamon butter coating
  1. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until smooth and sandy-wet throughout, about 30 seconds.
Coat the apple rings
  1. Toss the apple rings in the cinnamon butter coating until each ring is well covered, with no dry spots.
Air fry
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F so it’s hot and ready before cooking.
  2. Arrange the coated rings in a single layer and air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway, until deeply golden and caramelized at the edges.
  3. Work in batches so the rings don’t crowd and steam; repeat until all rings are cooked.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream and caramel dipping sauce while the rings are crisp.

Notes

For the crispiest caramelized edges, keep rings about 1/2-inch thick and don’t overcrowd—cook in batches if needed. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 2 to 4 minutes. Freezing isn’t recommended because the rings can soften. For a lighter option, use reduced-sugar caramel sauce and swap butter for a plant-butter alternative with a similar fat content.
